TAV BROUGHT POLISH JOURNALISTS TO PROMOTE MACEDONIA AS A TRAVEL DESTINATION
31 July 2017

Invited by TAV Macedonia, five Polish journalist visited Macedonia during July to experience the beauties of the country and promote it as a touristic destination among Polish tourists, supporting the current route Katowice-Ohrid and creating a higher demand for flights from Poland to Macedonia

As a follow up to the recent opening of the seasonal charter-flights from Katowice to Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport, TAV Macedonia brought 5 Polish journalists in the country to experience its beauties and promote it as a touristic destination among Polish tourists.

-As you already know on 22nd of June at Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport started to operate the seasonal charter flights from Katowice. Once weekly one of the biggest Polish tour operators Rego Bis, brings, on each flight, 220 Polish tourists at Ohrid Lake till end of September. Following the recent successful activity we have done with Turkish bloggers who promoted Macedonia among Turkish citizens, we took very similar marketing initiative, in order to promote Macedonia as an interesting travel destination among Polish holidaymakers and Polish travelers. From 17th until 22nd of July five Polish journalists representing respectable print and online media in Poland, visited Skopje region (Matka canon, wineries), Ohrid Lake region and Bitola region, experiencing the unique natural beauties of the country and its cultural-historical heritage. We expect this activity to contribute for higher demand for flights from Poland to Ohrid, in order the tour-operator Rego bis can easily execute the additional announced destination Warsaw, as well as contributing for opening of additional charter-flights from Poland to Macedonia operated by another Polish tour-operator, for which we are in negotiations for a long time, stated Alper Ersoy, TAV Macedonia General Manager.

As explained by Ersoy, TAV Macedonia is constantly doing similar marketing activities not only to attract airlines and tour-operators to start flying to both Macedonian airports – Skopje Alexander the Great and Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle, but to support newly opened destinations and create bigger demand from the source markets.

Ohrid Airport is booming in the past year, after the number of seasonal flights has been significantly increased, bringing tourists at Ohrid Lake from 4 new source markets – Poland, Belgium, Israel, Serbia. Besides the traditional seasonal flights from Amsterdam operated by Corendon and TUIFly each year to Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport, in 2016 charter-flights from Brussels operated by Thomas Cook were opened; charter-flights from Tel Aviv operated by Israeli Arkia were also opened; the seasonal flights on the route Belgrade-Ohrid, by Air Serbia, were re-opened, while the regular year round routes to London, Basel and Zurich, continue to operate by Wizz Air and Germania Flug.

In the first six months of 2017, TAV Macedonia reported 6% increase in passenger traffic, compared to the same period in 2016, or at both Macedonian airports from January until June passed a total of 860.130 passengers.

With the recent newly opened routes from Skopje Alexander the Great Airport in July, to Malta, Rome, Vaxjo and Doha, as well as the extended frequencies on the existing routes, TAV Macedonia officials expect higher increase rate of traffic during the second half of this year.

TAV Macedonia would like to express its gratitude to Fibula Air Travel Agency for their support on the realization of the visit of Polish media representatives between 17th and 22nd of July.
