One million, 41 thousand and 583 passengers (1.041.583) travelled through Skopje International Airport and Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport in the first 6 months of 2018, which is an annual increase of 21% compared to the first half of 2017.

At the same period, January-June 2018, the number of flights at both Macedonian airports has reached 9.033, with an annual growth of 16%.

-While the European airports have an average passenger traffic increase of 6,1% in 2018, TAV continues to note high double digit increase in passenger’s traffic at Macedonian airports. This positive trend in the air traffic growth, confirms the big potential that the Macedonian aviation market has. We will continue to put our best efforts to develop Skopje and Ohrid airports, by attracting new airlines and expanding the destinations’ network, in cooperation with all competent state authorities, stated Alper Ersoy, TAV Macedonia General Manager.

The 21% passenger traffic growth that TAV Macedonia noted from January to June, is exceeding the non-EU airports’ average growth as well, which is 12,5% in 2018 first quarter. *

The most frequent destinations according to passenger traffic in the first 6 months at Skopje International Airport are: Istanbul (both Ataturk and Sabiha Gokcen Airports; 11% market share), Zurich (8,5%), Basel (5,8%), Vienna (5,1%), Malmo (4,6%) and Bratislava (3,5%).

Regarding airline’s share in passenger traffic, Wizz Air transported the largest number of passengers with 63,3% market share, followed by Turkish Airlines (8,1%), Austrian Airlines (5,1%), Germania Flug (4,6%), Edelweiss (3,8%), Croatia Airlines (3,1%), Pegasus Airlines (3%).

TAV Macedonia officials expect the air traffic growth to continue with the similar pace  until the end of the year, having on mind the 5 new destinations that were opened at Skopje and Ohrid Airports, at the beginning of 2018 summer flights season.

On 1st of June, LOT Polish Airlines entered the Macedonian market, by launching flights between Skopje and Warsaw, a new route that is being served 6 times weekly.

At Ohrid Airport, 4 new seasonal destinations were opened – Istanbul, Eindhoven, Tallinn, and Warsaw, while TAV Macedonia officials announce a new regular year round route from Ohrid to Vienna that will be introduced in November 2018.

Skopje International Airport is connected with 38 destinations, operated by 13 airlines. Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport has 3 regular routes year round and 8 seasonal destinations, all operated by 11 airlines.
