TAV MACEDONIA AND ALITALIA CONNECTED SKOPJE WITH THE ETERNAL CITY OF ROME

TAV MACEDONIA AND ALITALIA CONNECTED SKOPJE WITH THE ETERNAL CITY OF ROME

Alitalia started operating a new international service between Skopje International Airport and Rome Fiumicino as of May 2, 2014. A press conference was held at Skopje Airport terminal in order to inaugurate the new route with the attendance of representatives of the Macedonian business and diplomatic community.

“With the establishment of the regular flights between Skopje and Rome, TAV Macedonia fulfils another promise, connecting the Republic of Macedonia with the capital of Italy. Aboard the flight from Alexander the Great to Fiumicino in just over an hour will bring our valued passengers to one of the most desirable tourist destinations in Europe, but it will also allow for an easy transfer of those who want to continue their trip to other destinations in the Mediterranean and beyond. We are also glad that we could welcome the Italians and the others who will travel to see our beautiful Macedonia” – stated Mr. Zoran Krstevski, TAV Macedonia General Manager.

The tickets for the new route are already on sale online or from travel agents and Alitalia ticket offices. The new Skopje – Rome flights will operate on a daily basis by Embraer E-175 aircraft configured in two classes of service:  “Ottima”, Alitalia business class on international routes and “Classica”, Alitalia’s economy class.

Marco Quagliarella, Alitalia Regional Manager stated: “The schedules have been designed to favour not only business traffic between Italy and Republic Macedonia and the Macedonian residents in Italy, but also to enable easy access onto our intercontinental and international network via the Rome Fiumicino hub. Alitalia has decided to offer to the customers a very special offer: Promotional fares to Rome starting at EUR 99. This fare will be at sales for a limited period of time until – 10th of May – an occasion not to be missed. Low fares to the rest of Italy starting at EUR 149 and to European destinations, starting at EUR 199 have also been introduced.”

During the month of May Alitalia will start operating on a light schedule with 30 roundtrip monthly flights  between Rome and Skopje, while as of June full scale daily operations will be introduced. As of 1st of June the Alitalia flight will depart from Skopje, at 05:30 hours arriving in Rome Fiumicino at 07:20 hours (on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays), and 17:05 hours arriving in Rome Fiumicino at 18:55 hours (on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays). From Rome, the flight will depart at 21:45 hours arriving in Skopje at 23:35 hours (on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays), and at 14:35 hours arriving in Skopje at 16:25 hours (on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays).

The Ambassador of Italy to Macedonia, Ernesto Masimino Bellelli, stressed that the return of Alitalia to Skopje is an important step in the advancement of the bilateral relations between Macedonia and Italy which are already quite intensive and continually developing. “Thanks to the upcoming Italian presidency with the EU, new possibilities will open up for development of our relations. The connection of Skopje with Rome in this manner presents a symbolic completion of the Corridor 8 towards Italy, one of the biggest European centers for circulation of persons and goods. In fact, this occasion will be warmly received by the Italian tour operators interested in Macedonia as a tourist destination, but also for the many Macedonian citizens who live and work in Italy, stated Ambassador Belleli.

With this new direct service to Rome, Alitalia aims to increase the tourist traffic flow to the Italian capital, as well as responding to the needs of the growing demand for connections between Macedonia and Italy due to the increased economic cooperation and commercial exchanges between the two countries.

The launch of the new Skopje – Rome Fiumicino service further enhances Alitalia’s links to the Balkans. The opening of Skopje, as a new destination on the Alitalia network, follows the launch of services to Podgorica (Montenegro) and increase in the Group’s services to Tirana (Albania) operated by Alitalia and Air One. Alitalia has appointed VAS Tour Operator Skopje as the General Sales Agent for the territory of Macedonia. As of the month of May, VAS Tour will offer the complete service: information, reservations and ticketing and providing support to travel agents on behalf of Alitalia.
