“As of April 2014, two aircraft will support the operations of the Wizz Air base at Skopje Airport operated by TAV Macedonia. Three new routes to Brussels, Paris and Frankfurt will be introduced making a total of thirteen routes operated by Wizz Air. The number of weekly flights on the existing services will also be increased.”

During a press conference at the Skopje Airport, Wizz Air today announced the 2nd aircraft for its Macedonian base. The new Airbus A320 aircraft will be delivered to Skopje on 16 April 2014 and therefore bring the total fleet investment in Wizz Air’s Macedonian base to USD 160 million. The new aircraft will support operations of a total of 13 Skopje routes and increase seat capacity in 2014 to over 685.000 thousand seats.

Zoran Krstevski, General Manager of TAV Macedonia – the operator of both Macedonian airports welcomed the decision to introduce new Wizz Air routes and said: "This year is very successful for TAV Macedonia.” We have a total increase in the number of passengers at both airports of 16.8 percent and more than 18 percent at the Skopje International Airport, which is the highest growth in the region. In terms of aircraft operations we have a total increase of 8.8 percent. The most popular destinations for the Macedonian citizens are Istanbul, Vienna, Zurich, London, Ljubljana and Malmo. In the first two quarters of the year, Skopje International Airport has once again received the highest marks for airport service quality according to the Airport Councils International surveys."

This shows that low fares lead to tourism and job creation and stimulate business with foreign markets as consumers really want access to low cost air travel. Wizz Air announced more weekly flights on the existing services to Basel Mulhouse, Dortmund, Eindhoven, Gothenburg, Malmo and Munich Memmingen. The airline also announced three new services to Brussels Charleroi, Frankfurt Hahn and Paris Beauvais which all will initially operate two times per week and start from 16 April 2014. Seats for the new Skopje routes are already on sale from incredible MKD 1,199 and can be booked on

“We clearly see that Macedonian consumers are as enthusiastic about our low fares as millions of Wizz Air passengers in Europe and beyond. We stay committed to the Macedonian market and the development of the infrastructure of low cost air travel, and in response to the high demand for Wizz Air’s low fares I am thrilled to announce a new aircraft to our Skopje base. The arrival of the 2nd aircraft will bring Wizz Air’s total fleet investment in Skopje to over USD 160 million. This will stimulate job growth and benefit consumers as we look forward to bring more low fares to Macedonia.“ - said John Stephenson, Executive Vice President of Wizz Air.

The Minister of Transport and Communications Mile Janakievski expressed his satisfaction regarding Wizz Air’s operation expansion in Skopje and said: “I am pleased by the fact that Wizz Air has recognized Macedonia as a favorable destination. This is also indicated by the increase in the number of passengers at the Skopje International Airport making it a regional leader. Following its recent success, Wizz Air will introduce another aircraft to its Skopje base totaling the investment to around USD 160 million. Moreover, the airline will increase its frequency of existing services which further emphasizes the progress of the company in Macedonia.“
