1.8 MILLION PASSENGERS AT SKOPJE AND OHRID AIRPORTS IN THE FIRST 9 MONTHS OF 2018

1,8 million passengers traveled through Skopje International Airport and Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport in the first 9 months of 2018, which is an annual increase of 18%, reports TAV Macedonia, the company operating the Macedonian Airports.

At the same time, from January until September 2018, the number of flights at both airports is 15.395, with an annual increase of 12%. 

-We finished another busy summer season at both Skopje and Ohrid airports, and now we are ready for the winter season operations, that will start at the end of October with the new winter flight schedule. Summarizing the past months, it is important to note that after successfully finished discussions and negotiations, on 1st of June 2018, LOT Polish Airlines entered the Macedonian market, launching the new route Warsaw-Skopje, with a frequency of 6 flights weekly between the 2 capitals. At Ohrid Airport we opened 4 new seasonal flights – Istanbul, Eindhoven, Tallinn, and Warsaw, while as of November 2018 Vienna will be launched as a new destination and another year round route. We expect to continue with the same pace of double digit increase in passenger traffic until the end of 2018, which is higher than the official EU average of 4,8% (July 2018) and higher than the average passenger volumes growth of 6,8% at non-EU airports measured by ACI Europe, stated TAV Macedonia General Manager, Alper Ersoy.

Along with the route network development, as always TAV Macedonia is focused on improving the quality of services. According to this policy, a new food and beverage point in the check-in area – NeedStop was introduced at the beginning of June 2018, while the existing retail shops were reallocated in the check-in area, just next to the F&B point, in order to create a wider check-in area for the passengers, in order they have a comfortable time for their check-in. 

-In August 2018, we have opened another novelty at Skopje Airport – Kids corner, located after passport control, near the Gates, thus adding entertainment content for our youngest passengers. Additionally, we will introduce a new type of self-check-in kiosks that will enable passengers to do their self check-in individually, without waiting on the line. Passengers will be able to get baggage tag from this machine and then finish their check-in procedure by dropping off their bag on a special counter in the check-in area, announces Ersoy

According to passenger traffic statistics from January until September 2018, the most frequent destinations at Skopje International Airport are: Istanbul (both Ataturk and Sabiha Gokcen Airports; 10,8% market share), Zurich (7,8%), Vienna (5,7%), Basel (5,3%), Malmo (4,5%) and Bratislava (3,4%). 

Regarding airline’s share in passenger traffic, Wizz Air transported the largest number of passengers with 60,3% market share, followed by Turkish Airlines (7,8%), Austrian Airlines (5,7%), Germania Flug (4,5%), Pegasus Airlines (3,7%), Croatia Airlines (3,4%). 

The busiest day at Skopje International Airport in the first 9 months of 2018 in terms of passenger traffic was 29thof July with 8.796 passengers, while in terms of aircraft movements – 2nd of August with 76 flights. 

Besides the continuous double digit growth in passenger’s traffic, TAV Macedonia notes remarkable annual increase in cargo traffic at Skopje International Airport in the first 9 months, which is 2676 tons, and it is higher by 22% compared to the same period in 2017. 

Skopje International Airport is connected by 37 regular routes year round, operated by 12 airlines, and 4 charter destinations (summer season) operated by 6 airlines. Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport has 3 regular routes year round and 8 seasonal destinations, all operated by 12 airlines.

There is regular shuttle bus to/from Skopje International Airport for passengers that drives and stops at key bus stops throughout the City of Skopje and arrives at the airport. V2V Transporter manages and operates the shuttle buses for passengers. The shuttle bus timetable is prepared according to the arrivals/departures of flights at Skopje International Airport. Skopje International Airport operates 24/7. Restaurants and cafes such as Cakes & Bakes, Café In, Burger King and NeedStop are available for the passengers at any time; business lounge (PrimeClass CIP Service) offers you comfort 24/7, while ATU Duty Free is opened as per the flights timetable and offers wide range of products.  

Check-in at the passenger and baggage check-in counters starts 180 minutes (3 hours) before the scheduled time of departure (STD) specified on your flight ticket. The closing time of the airport check-in counter is no later than 60 minutes before STD stated on your flight ticket.
Since the beginning of COVID–19 pandemic, due to the requirements for different travel documents imposed by different countries, TAV Macedonia appeals to passengers to arrive at the airport 3 hours before take-off.

Passengers are allowed to carry on board free of charge items such as coat, 1 umbrella or walking stick, 1 ladies handbag, 1 camera or binoculars, 1 baby transporter, 1 pair of crutches or similar prosthetic aids, medical equipment on which the passenger is fully dependent, a reasonable quantity of baby food.

Regarding the baggage fees amount, please contact your airline, because each airline has its own baggage policy and applicable rules.

Yes. Since 2015 TAV Macedonia has introduced free Wi-Fi internet at Skopje International Airport, which was upgraded in 2019. Passengers can access free internet through their mobile devices by simply connecting to a wireless network called TAV Airports, password is not required.

Yes. At Skopje International Airport there are specially designated, marked parking lots for persons with disabilities and the car park services are free of charge within 24 hours. By enclosing the traffic license and the disability identification card at the Car Park Payment Counter, located inside the terminal building, our employees will cancel the car park ticket and the person with disability will be automatically exempt from paying for the car park service. If all designated parking lots for persons with disabilities are occupied, park your car on a regular parking lot, and following the above stated procedure you will be exempted from paying for the car park services.

Yes. At Skopje International Airport there is a Special Assistance Service for passengers with reduced mobility (PRMs). The counter where you can ask for this free of charge service is located inside the Terminal building, next to the Information Desk. Passenger with Reduced Mobility (PRM) means any person whose mobility is reduced due to physical incapacity (sensor or locomotor), intellectual deficiency, age, illness, or other cause of disability.

Yes. There is a smoking room at Skopje International Airport, which is located in the security-restricted area, airside. The smoking room is located next to Gate number 201, i.e., on the left side after you pass passport control and security screening.
In addition to the smoking room, passengers can use the open terraces of the cafeterias located at the entrance to the terminal building of the airport.
Smoking is prohibited in all other areas of the terminal building.
