TAV Macedonia Invests €1 Million in CT Security Screening at Skopje Airport

Skopje International Airport, operated by TAV Macedonia, a subsidiary of TAV Airports, a member of Groupe ADP, has invested 1 million euros in two new devices for advanced security screening of cabin baggage with CT technology and two new automated lanes, manufactured by the British company Smiths Detection.

This state-of-the-art equipment will enhance security standards, increase the efficiency of security screening procedures, and enable faster passenger flow in accordance with the latest European and international standards.
“With this technology, TAV Macedonia is positioning Skopje International Airport alongside major European hubs such as Frankfurt, Heathrow and Zurich, where these systems are already standard. The same devices are also used at leading airports in the USA, Israel and India, which confirms their reliability and global acceptance.
What does this mean in practice?
First, higher security. These systems provide much greater precision in detecting potential threats and significantly reduce the need for additional physical checks. Second, a better experience for passengers. Security control will be faster, waiting times will be shorter, and comfort will be higher. Unlike before, passengers will no longer need to remove laptops, tablets, mobile phones and liquids from their hand baggage – these items can remain in the bag during the screening process. Third, higher airport capacity. The new technology allows us to process up to twice as many passengers per hour per line. This is crucial for handling the growing traffic, especially during peak seasons”, stated Nejat Kurt, TAV Macedonia General Manager.
He added that this project is part of a broader investment cycle aimed at further strengthening airport security through continuous upgrades of systems and personnel.
„This project is part of a broader investment cycle in the security of Skopje International Airport. Last year, we implemented two additional major projects worth a total of 1,930,000 euros that further reinforce our security system.
The first is a completely new video surveillance system, which significantly strengthens our ability to prevent, detect and respond quickly to security incidents, with the goal of maximum protection of passengers, employees and infrastructure.
The second is a modern system for training, testing and certification of security personnel, which provides continuous professional development through realistic simulations and modern evaluation methods, fully aligned with the highest international standards said Nejat Kurt, TAV Macedonia General Manager

With these investments, TAV Macedonia clearly confirms its strategic commitment – to create a modern, safe and competitive airport that meets and exceeds European standards. The company will continue to invest in technologies, infrastructure and services that improve the quality of travel and strengthen the position of Skopje International Airport as a modern regional aviation hub.
