TAV Airports: Macedonian airports continue to break records - 3,3 million passengers served with 29% increase in the first 9 months of 2026

The impressive double-digit passenger traffic growth at Skopje and Ohrid airports that started in 2025, continues in the first 9 months of 2026
Skopje International Airport and Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport continue to break records. In the first nine months of 2026 both Macedonian airports, managed by TAV Macedonia, a subsidiary of TAV Airports a member of Groupe ADP, served a total of 3,3 million passengers (3.331.685) which is a 29% increase compared to the same period in 2025. 
At the same time, the number of flights, from January to September, reached a total of 22.147 which is a 10% increase compared to last year.

This growth is also reflected in ACI EUROPE’s ranking, which placed North Macedonia as the second-fastest-growing aviation market in Europe in August. According to TAV Macedonia statistics, Skopje International Airport solely served 3.065.692 passengers in the period January-September, which is 29,07% increase and 20.081 flights with 8,46% increase, while Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport served 265.993 passengers with 26,76% increase and 2.066 flight with 27,06% increase on the annual level.
 
Top - five most frequent destinations according to passenger traffic from the Macedonia capital’s airport are: Istanbul with 13,5% market share including both airports-IGA and Sabiha Gokcen; Basel Mulhouse with 4,4%; Munich with 4,1%; Dortmund with 4%; and Zurich with 3,8% market share.

Top - five airlines from Skopje International Airport according to passenger traffic in the first 9 months of 2026 are: Wizz Air (63,8%); Pegasus Airlines (9,4%); Turkish Airlines (4,6%); Ajet Airlines (3,5%) and Austrian Airlines (3,4%).

In the same period, January-September, top five most frequent destinations from Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport according to passenger traffic are: Bratislava with 14,4% market share; Basel (12,5%), Dortmund (12,4%); Memmingen (11,7%), and Zurich (8,7%). 

If the passenger traffic at Ohrid Airport is reviewed according to airlines participation, the market share is as follows: Wizz Air (70%), Chair Airlines (8,7%); Turkish Airlines (5%); TUI (4,6%) and TUI UK (3%).  
In the current, 2026 summer flights schedule that started on 29th March and will end at the end of October, 15 airlines fly to 54 regular destinations and 7 airlines fly to 24 chartered destinations to/from Skopje Airport, while from Ohrid Airport 8 airlines fly to 17 destinations (14 regular/seasonal and 3 chartered flights) from Ohrid Airport.  
Ten new destinations were introduced from Skopje and Ohrid airports this year, with the start of the summer flights schedule. Naples, Budapest, Palermo, Alghero, Trabzon and Samson from Skopje International Airport, while Milan, Vienna, Wroclaw and Katowice from Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport.  
Macedonian airports passenger traffic continuous growth is confirmed by the latest air traffic report by Airports Council International-Europe for August 2026. 
ACI-Europe ranked Macedonian airports as the second fastest growing aviation market in Europe. After Slovakia as an EU member state with 61% passenger traffic increase, the Macedonian Airports as a non-EU market reached 35% (34,8%) passenger traffic increase, leading ACI-Europe’s non-EU countries list for August 2026. After Skopje and Ohrid airports, on the second and third place of the non-EU markets according to passenger traffic increase in August, ACI-Europe ranks Montenegro (28,6%) and Albania (20,7%).
