TAV AIRPORTS: Skopje International Airport achieves Level 3 of Airport Carbon Accreditation

Skopje International Airport has received Level 3 carbon accreditation for carbon emissions optimization by Airports Council International (ACI) within their global Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) Program for carbon emissions management.
“These accreditations are a clear confirmation of TAV Macedonia’s commitment to responsible environmental management and the application of best international practices in sustainable aviation. Achieving Level 3 for Skopje International Airport represents significant progress in our efforts to reduce carbon impact and improve energy efficiency, with the goal of ensuring a sustainable future for Macedonian aviation.”, said Nejat Kurt, TAV Macedonia General Manager.
Level 3 certification confirms that Skopje Airport has effectively managed and reduced its carbon emissions while actively engaging its partners in carbon footprint management.
To achieve this level, Skopje International Airport implemented a series of significant measures, including: the implementation of an energy efficiency and monitoring program in line with international methodologies, upgrades of airside and landside lighting systems to high-efficiency LED installations, introduction of energy performance optimization programs for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and terminal systems, deployment of hybrid ground support equipment and support for the transition to an environmentally friendly vehicle fleet, expansion of renewable energy production and procurement, joint initiatives with airlines and service providers, and the establishment of a climate action stakeholder platform for data sharing, performance monitoring, and coordination of reduction plans.
"Achieving Level 3 of Airport Carbon Accreditation less than a year after joining the program is a significant milestone in Skopje International Airport's decarbonization journey. By optimizing energy consumption, expanding the use of battery powered ground support equipment and investing in electric vehicle charging infrastructure, the airport is laying the foundations for long term emissions reductions. At Level 3, the airport is also broadening the scope of its carbon footprint to include third party emissions, reinforcing its pathway towards the objective of reaching net zero by 2050. Congratulations to the entire TAV Airports team.”, said Olivier Jankovec, ACI EUROPE Director General.

Through this achievement, Skopje International Airport strengthens its commitment to long-term climate responsibility and aligns itself with TAV Airports goals to reach carbon neutrality by 2030 and net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 at all airports within the group.
Airport Carbon Accreditation is the only institutionally-endorsed, global carbon management certification program for airports, that helps them manage and reduce their carbon emissions in accordance with the international standards. It independently assesses and recognizes the efforts of airports to manage and reduce their carbon emissions through 7 levels of certification: ‘Level 1’, ‘Level 2’, ‘Level 3’, ‘Level 3+’, ‘Level 4’, ‘Level 4+’ and ‘Level 5’.
Airports Council International (ACI) is a global trade organization representing airports worldwide and works to enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability in aviation.
