Airport Security
Important points to be complied with by passengers before flight
Since safety and security are our top priority, please follow several simple steps and rules when traveling by plane.
Arrive at the airport on time for your flight. The departure time is indicated on your flight ticket, and check-in counters open two hours before departure.
For your safety, we strongly advise you to pack your baggage yourself and do not accept any item or package given to you to be taken, carried to, or on behalf of, someone else.
Moreover, it is important to consider that some items that can pose a risk are prohibited or restricted on board. We advise you to review the regulations before packing to avoid any issues during security screening at the airport.
Liquids in cabin (hand) baggage
You are allowed to carry only small quantities of liquids in your hand baggage. Each liquid must be packed in a container no larger than 100 milliliters. The 100-milliliter containers must be placed in a single transparent, resealable (zipper) plastic bag with a maximum capacity of 1 liter. If you do not have your own resealable, zipper, bag, you can obtain one at the security screening checkpoint. For more details on permitted liquids and how to prepare them for security screening, please refer to EU regulations on liquids allowed on board.
Liquids, or LAGs (liquids, aerosols, gels) include water and other drinks, syrups, creams, lotions, oils, perfumes, gels (including hair and shower gels), sprays, pressurized containers (deodorants, shaving or other foams, etc., pastes (including toothpaste), cosmetic and beauty products, and/or any other items of similar content and/or consistency.
The volume restriction does not apply to medicines* and baby food*.
You can bring medicines* and essential foods, like baby food*, in your hand luggage if you need them during your trip. However, be prepared to show proof that they are necessary, and have a soft or hard copy of your prescription or doctor’s letter ready to confirm that the medicines packed are yours. Store medicines in their original containers. Make sure medicines are clearly labeled.
Moreover, inform security screening officers if you have any medical device(s), aid(s), or implant(s) (e.g., pacemaker) before being screened at the security checkpoint.
Duty-free liquids in hand baggage
You can carry duty-free purchased liquids in your hand baggage, whether purchased at an airport or onboard a flight. Just make sure they are sealed in a special security bag with a red border, along with the receipt, when you buy them. Keep the bag sealed until you reach your destination.
Dangerous Goods
Passengers, and crew, are generally not allowed to bring dangerous goods on an aircraft, whether in hand baggage, checked bags, or on their person. However, some exceptions are permitted under the rules set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and outlined in the International Air Transport Association (IATA) guidelines (IATA Table).
However, please keep in mind that stricter regulations might be imposed by certain airlines and individual countries, and some air carriers might refuse to transport dangerous goods altogether. To avoid any issues, check with your airline well in advance for specific details.
Prohibited Items
The safety and security of passengers, crew, and staff are of utmost importance, therefore, items such as sharp objects, sporting goods, tools, firearms, etc., because of their potential to be used to harm and cause severe damage cannot be taken onboard an aircraft, or carried inside the hand (cabin) baggage. You can find the list of prohibited items here. Please note that the list is not excessive, since security staff may refuse access to a security-restricted area and getting onboard the aircraft of any passenger in possession of an item not contained in the List of prohibited items over which they have a concern.
Please ensure there are no dangerous goods and prohibited items in your baggage.
❗ Important ❗ While you are at the airport, please do not leave your baggage unattended at any time. Unattended baggage will be removed by the airport security.
Security Screening Procedure - Passengers and Cabin (Hand) Baggage
After you have completed the passport control and after your travel documents have been checked, your next stop at the airport is the security screening checkpoint.
Many passengers find security screening as one of the most stressful checkpoints and processes when traveling by plane. But do not worry, our well-trained security screening staff will guide you through the process.
For your safety, we strongly advice you to pack your baggage yourself and do not accept any item or package given to you to be taken, carried to, or on behalf of, someone else.
Moreover, it is important to consider that some items that can pose a risk are prohibited or restricted on board. We advise you to review the regulations before packing to avoid any issues during security screening at the airport.
Ensure there are no dangerous goods and prohibited items in your baggage and that you do not have on you any prohibited items. Check the standard airport security rules applied.
At the security screening checkpoint, you and your cabin (hand) baggage will be inspected using an x-ray machine and a walk-through metal detector, respectively.
For a smooth and fast security screening, here are some tips on how to pass through the security screening checkpoint stress-free.
- In your cabin (hand) baggage, pack your liquids in containers of no more than 100 milliliters each, and place them in a plastic, resealable, zipper, 1-liter bag. At the security checkpoint, present and put the 1-liter zipper bag into the plastic tray provided for you and your belongings.
- You should take out of your bag all electronic devices packed in your cabin (hand) baggage and place them separately in the plastic tray.
- You should take off your jacket, coat, or vest, and take off your belt, eyeglasses, and jewelry (if any), and place them safely in the plastic tray.
- Empty all your pockets and place all your belongings into the plastic tray, since your pockets must be empty before passing through the scanner.
- ❗Be careful and make sure that all your e-devices, pocket items, jewelry, and belongings have been properly placed into the tray to avoid any damage while being security screened.
- If you are traveling with medicines and medical equipment and/or aids, please ensure that you have a soft/hard copy of your prescription or doctor’s letter ready to confirm that the medicines packed are yours. Store medicines in their original containers. Make sure medicines are clearly labeled. Moreover, inform security screening officers if you have any medical device(s), aid(s), or implant(s) (e.g., pacemaker) before being screened at the security checkpoint.
- Strictly follow the instructions provided by our security personnel.
